Default Is 8 gauge wire too much

I have finally got all the parts to start my RF PBR300x4 amp and speaker install. I know Ultra and Gannicus recommend to use 10 gauge wire to power and ground the amp. A friend had some 8 gauge wire left from his install and I was wondering if it would hurt to use that 8 gauge wire to power and ground my amp? Thanks for your assistance

Bigger is better, especially if you want to upgrade or add on later.

Bigger is always better for a ground. The only limiting factor could be if you need to go thru an existing hole or make a sharp bend.

I just did a PBR install using 8 gauge wire. The connection at the amp will accept 10 gauge, but 8 gauge is almost too big to fit.

Thanks all. My next question is what do ya'll think of my mounting idea for the PBR300x4 amp. Im thinking about mounting it beside the CB box on top of factory head unit. It hangs over about and inch, do you think it will rub the front facia. If I have to I can cut one end of the amps mounting holes off to make it sit even on the end. What Im trying to do is get the setting ends on the outside so to make it easier to work with and give it better ventilation. Im open for all suggestions I only want to do it once and right.

UltraNutZ can tell you better than I, but I think he moves the CB module to the bottom and puts the amp on top of the head unit. Another option is to trim the bucket that holds the speedometer to allow the amp to sit back further, a mod he did to my bike when I had the SoundStream 520 in there

Why not just use rebar?

Seriously, 10 gauge wire is rated for 55 amps, 12 gauge for 41 amps. Unless you plan on welding with it, you do not need 8 gauge wire.
