If you are not going to amp your speakers you might as well leave the stock speakers in.
As AAWAV said $250-300 bucks. you can have a nice system that you can hear on the highway at 70 mph. Any two ohm speaker that you replace the stockers with is going to require some power to push them. Especially with the stock radio.

I'll add that it can done on a "budget" and still be better than stock. A few weeks back I added a clarion 1410 amp I got from Mike, and two sets of 2ohm 5 1/4 JBL's for 50 bucks a piece. Total install was around 170 bucks and it was night and day difference from stock. We tried the speakers without the radio and they sounded better parked in the garage, but no real difference on the road. The small amp made a huge difference.

I tried with a buddy's bike and a few different sets of both 5.25 and 6.5 with a LITTLE improvement in garage but not at speed. If you try, my honest opinion is don't bother with going to the 6.5 for a couple reasons. First the $ you spend on the adapters will not be made up in sound quality, and second any decent 6.5 will require some power. I know this is not what you hope to hear but the open environment cockpit of a motorcycle SUCKS for reproducing anything even close to quality audio, especially without adding something to push the speakers at least a little. Hope this helps. Don't ever hesitate to ask questions and just as important, PLEASE post results of anything you try.
