Well your question leaves me with several questions of my own. Are you planning to leave the fairing speakers stock? Are you planning to add an amp to your setup? Do you like the idea of buying an amp and upgrading the speakers you have now so that all 4 speakers are good quality with the power to push them? What's your budget? What's your expectations?

I do plan on changing factory speakers as well, and I would like to keep it under a grand. My expectations are to get the tunes to my wife as best possible. I wasn't sure if I would be better off going with new lids and speakers there or if the speakers in lowers would direct toward her better? I know if I go the lid route it's gonna go over a grand I am assuming? Are using my lids that I have an option or not?

For about a grand you could do a full BT set up. BT4180 amp, 7P1 speakers in the fairing and Titan II 6.5's in the lowers. This will be PLENTY loud for anyone on that bike AND anyone next to you at a red light!!
Only thing I would caution you is call BT and figure out what the recommend for your 2014 and radio flash from HD before ordering.

I agree with haze Biketronics is my system of choice for several reasons. I'm also with haze on not knowing what is required with the "flash" on the newer bikes but bill will lead you in the right direction I'm sure. I can assure you with Biketronics 7.1 and 6x9s in the rear lids running of a 4180 your wife will have absolutely no trouble at all hear anything. It's the system imncurrently running and it's great regardless of my speed. I don't think there is really a nice way to turn your stock lids into speaker lids, however I'm sure someone will disagree. Back to the lower fairing speakers, I'm sure they would get the volume back there to her also.
