Default call me an idiot …need help asap

got my sony mex -m70bt and metra 99-9600 kit yesterday ….cant get the sony to go into the metro bracket ….whats up with that ? do i need to take the face off the radio somehow ….dont understand the jap hieroglyphics

Remove the rectangular mount bracket from the HU. That's for an automobile install.
Don't try modification of the faceplate!

i see that but not sure how to remove it , but more than that the metra bracket is at least an 1/8 " narrower than the sony

Lift/release the tabs on the side. It's supposed to fit snug/tight. It will fit if you got the right kit for a Sony.

do you need to remove the black plastic ring of the face plate too ? the radio is 7" wide the opening in the metra bracket is 6 ⅞" wide, it just won't go in from the back of the radio

No, the Hu should slide in through from the rear and fit against/behind the trim. Double check the install instructions that came with the Metra. Maybe one of the real experts wil chime in. I have a different Sony HU and Biketronics Retro kit,But they're basically the same.
