Default Sirius radio

Posted this in the touring section also but thought I would get more ideas here.

So being the cheap sob that I am I am considering this Sirius receiver.

Amazon Amazon
What I like about it is that the receiver and most of the wiring will be inside the fairing with only the interface outside. I have also found a rain cover on Ebay for that.
I'm fairly certain I won't be able to use the touchscreen with gloves on but thats ok as I only listen to 4-5 stations and won't mind having to stop if I want to change. Guess I could cut the tip out of one glove or go fingerless.

I am also wondering where to mount the antenna, manual says mount to sheet metal and to contact a experienced installer if you plan on mounting to plastic or fiberglass. IIRK some of the older radios wanted as much tin around the antenna as possible for reception.

Any of you guy's using this or any of the other add on units?

You can as I use it to pipe through a workplace radio. The only issue is the phones antenna is no comparison to a true tuned antenna for satellite. And it eats up a battery like crazy.

Torchmaster; nothing wrong with what your trying to accomplish but if you would, what year make bike?

I found a nice little gizmo from ram mounts. it connects to the unit and I just used industrial 2 sided mounting tape to secure it on my dash inside the windshield. the antenna mounts to it (magnetic)..... here's a link it lists them for 27.00 but you can find them cheaper (around 15)

*EDIT* Here's a linky for one for $5

If you have cell coverage. A lot of places i go are off the grid. Thus satellite is a must.

I only have one friend left who uses Sirius. He has his antennae mounted on the rear fender close to the seat and you can hardly see it. He uses a ram mount for the receiver. Most guys I ride with have converted to Spotify and run through the phone.
