Default 09 SG stereo problem

I've searched with no luck....
SYMPTOMS:1)loss of stereo sound, stereo still on.radio will play about 5-10 minutes and speakers will cut out.
2)Unable to turn stereo OFF.will only go to CLOCK SET mode.
3)When start button hit radio speakers cut out, radio goes through shutdown procedure, comes back on,speakers may or may not have sound.
DIAGNOSTICS tried:A)Key in ignition mode, motor running,Unable to turn stereo off, when power button mashed, stereo goes to CLOCK SET mode.
B)Key in ignition mode,motor off,same problem.
C)Key in ACC position,motor off,same problem.
REPAIRS attempted: took front of fairing off,NO LOOSE CONNECTIONS found in stereo system wiring,no blown fuses ( I did this only because the service writer at the dealership suggested that the speaker wire connections could become hot and droop off the speaker stabs )

My thoughts on this problem are the radio has some internal issues and needs to be pulled, returned to dealer for repair by Harden Karmen.

OR there may be a RECALL on said stereo for my model year.

any ideas???

fatboydan. this sounds like a job for iron cross audio. What it sounds like to me is moisture has penetrated into the front circuit board of the radio through the trim bezel. Give them a holler and they'll be more than happy to talk to you before sending the unit to them.

I don't have any suggestions for you Dan, for a bump.
It sounds like you've checked it out pretty good.

Have you checked w/your Service Manager at your dealership?

If you still have ESP warranty, then you can let the dealer fix it, but if not then you can buy a reconditioned Iron Cross radio and then sell yours back to them, or go with a whole different type of unit, like a Sony w/Biketronics kit.

It won't cost that much more than the Iron Cross fix and will probably be a better unit, but you probably knew all that already too.

Default Also no sound

I also have the problem of sound stopping through the speakers and the only way to get them working is to operate the rocker switch between the 3 modes (intercom, front and all speakers) and music will return for 10 seconds or 15 minutes, but when the intercom is connected the system is ok ? Has anyone had this problem also and how were the repairs made !!!

There was a probem with the 09 radios. When I had my 09 SG, the speakers would cut out. The radio was still on. When it first started doing this, sometimes turning the radio off and back on would get it to work again and then that stopped working too. HD would authorize a replacement if it was still under warranty, but the dealer would send to directly to Harmon Kardon and a refurbished radio would be sent back. That is what they did with mine. I recall reading a few posts on this back when it was happening to mine.

Also...check your radio's SW version/update. Not saying it'll fix your issue, but HD will probably ask if you've updated.

+1 on the software upgrade process.

also there are quite a few posts on here 2009 Ultra Classic about folks having to replace that rocker switch to correct the issues that you seem to be experiencing.

I never had a problem with the radio in my 09 or the rocker switch for that matter. Guess I got a good one.
