Default Audio system overheats

2010 FLHTC. Harley ipod, Harley CB, HK head unit. HK unit replaced twice by dealer, and once by extended warranty. Radio cut out, diagnosis was over heating. Solution: Rockford PBR 300x2 with Rockford T165 speakers hoping Amp would do the work not HK, Rockford Amp now cooked, overheated(Rockford replacing Amp). Everything wired correctly with proper gauge wire. Would appreciate any thoughts on possible solution short of headset listening. Do not run system excessively loud, just enough to hear clearly at 60+MPH. Radio is on at least 3 to 5 hours a day. Am considering relocating Amp to saddle bag as absolute last resort. Would appreciate any thoughts on possible solutions. Thanks....D

deke.. the amp is not your issue. the radio is probably not your issue either. this has bad ground or bad voltage regulator written all over it.

check your ground at your battery and where the battery attaches to the frame. make sure they're clean and snug...

I agree with UN, I ran my RF 300x2 for 10hrs a day heading to pa at a good and loud level, not a bit of a problem!

Thanks. Will go on the hunt for poor ground connection this AM. Will faulty regulator show up on multimeter as low or variable voltage? Battery is new 12/2012.
