Amp clipping at high volume....

Amp clipping at high volume....
So..this morning on my ride to work, I was jamming out riding down the highway when all of a sudden, the front two speakers start cutting in and out. It was very rhythmic....every 2-4 seconds or so meaning it would play normal for 2-4 seconds and then cut out for 2-4 seconds and this continued for the rest of the ride to work. I turned to volume down on the radio and it seemed to have stopped but I turned it back up and it started again.
I have the PBR300x2 pushing two Infinity Kappa 62.11i speakers. Is there a way to test the amp and head unit? Im thinking of disconnecting the infinity speakers from the PBR amp and hooking them into the XD400/4 amp and see if its the amp but I still need to know if there is a way to test the head unit.

hey bud.. couple of things..
1. first thing you need to do is pull off fairing cap and see if amp is going into protect mode. The blue BR light will turn red if it is.
2. If it is, disconnect rear amp RCAs so you're only fooling with front for now.
3. then disconnect 1 speaker at a time to see if the speaker is what's causing this. Sometimes after a voice coil gets hot, it will literally create a direct short to the amp outputs and clip the amp
4. power wiring. make sure your power wires are not getting hot, especially the ground wire. If it is, check your connections at both ends.

big fingers.. lol.. the crossover switch is pretty common, I myself do it all the time when installing but check it prior to powering anything up.
that 5v setting is not a definitive setting. It's purpose is to adjust the amp to power off and on with speaker level inputs. This voltage may change from head unit to head unit.
Best way to set that voltage "turn on" setting is turn it all the way down, turn your head unit volume all the way down, now turn that voltage pot until the amp turns on and leave it there.
