Default Stock HK Head Unit, 7.1 BikeTeonics, and Boom AMP, not loud enough

Hey there fellow riders,

As the post states, I have a 2013 SG with the stock head unit, 7.1 Biketronics speakers in the fairing (75 Watts - 4 ohm) and the Boom! Audio AMP, rated at 4 channels, 40w per channel.

It is certainly louder and clearer than just stock, but after 65, 70 mph, I can't hear crap but the wind. This may just be the way it is.

I was wondering if adding lower fairings with speakers or putting speakers in my bag lids would give a bit more audio I can hear.

The Boom! amp can run 2 more speakers, it is only running the 2 7.1(s) at the moment.

Tried ear plugs, which cut down wind, but sort of muffle the audio too.

It is my only bike with audio, so I am used to just listening to the wind anyway, but just curious if you can really get to a point where you can hear music at any speed.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions. Ride on!

Easy....give those puppies some more power. Replace that amp with something giving them at least 100 watts rms and you'll see the difference.

The Boom amp is your problem. The 40w it's rated at is for a 2 ohm load. With 4 ohm speakers, you are probably only getting 20 to 25 watts out of it.

You need a bigger amp with more power to take advantage of the 7.1's.

Try a pbr300x2 or Soundstream 2.350 if you don't mind the risk of losing FM reception.

Thanks for the replies. I am thinking about the Bike Tronics BT2180 which is rated at 180 watts pre channel. Stinking HD products, I should have know better than to get a Boom!

Nice amp with plenty of power and a lifetime warranty. If you ever decide to put lowers on with speakers, you won't need another amp.
