Default 2001 fxdwg 88 TC carb help

2001 fxdwg
88 twin cam
V&H long shots with quiet baffles ( not really quiet)
Arlen ness big sucker.

I pulled and rebuilt the carb . I bought my parts from Cv performance.
I bought the premium tuners kit , see here,http://www.cv-performance.com/harley...um-tuners-kit/

I re-jetted using the supplied instructions for stage one .
original slow jet was a 46. I installed a 48
original main jet was a 190 . I installed a 195
I installed a new slide
I installed a new needle form the kit .
I installed a new spring from the kit ( lighter than stock )
I did not replace the plugs , they have about 5k on them.

It runs better with the exception of....

carb coughs off idle ... sometimes a really loud sharp pop.
the instructions stated the mixture screw sweet spot for twin cam 88's being about 2&1/8 turns out.

did propane check for intake leaks and do not believe there are any .

after taking the adjustment screw 3 to 3&1/8 out its perfect.

Is this too much? is my jetting off? intake leak ? or is it OK?

The weather is bad right now . I haven't had a chance to ride it since going to 3+ but its much better off idle.

Also , I already had the big shots ,but changed from an OEM air cleaner to the big sucker . the whole tone of the bike is different . I assume this is normal .

any help is appreciated.

I think a 45 slow jet is stock. I had a 48 in mine and it seemed a little much. I went to a 46 and about 2 1/2 turns out and a 195 main. Seems to work well and have gotten 48 mpg at times. You may need to shim that needle.

How is it at cold start? You didn't pinch the diaphragm/seal at top cover did you?It sounds like it's sucking air somewhere.48/195 should be plenty (195 a little fat IMHO).Twist the throttle (engine off) and check that accl. pump gives a squirt.

If it runs fine at 3 turns so be it.Watch your plugs.........I've been running a 48 in a stock 80" evo w/AM pipes and air cleaner (opened up) 7 years 32,000 miles. Can't remember how many turns out (seems like 2---2 1/8?) but not 3 (but 3 isn't a condemnation). You got any popping at deceleration-like backing off throttle at hiway speeds or engine breaking?

Well
A couple decel pops
That at about 2&1/8 out

Waiting for the rain to stop some can get back out

If it's worse I'm gonna just replace the intake seals ... Recjeck for leaks
And start over
Decel pops indicate unburnt fuel if I'm thinking correctly but also exhaust leaks ...I am going to replace exhaust gaskets as I had the front pipe off recently and reused the gasket ...the long shots are loud as hell and I'm not suee I wouldnhear a small leak

Regardless of those instructions, 2 1/8 turns is much too lean on that circuit.
2 1/2-3 turns out.
