Default Mikuni HSR42 Rebuild

Hey guys. Just started doing the rebuild of my HSR42 Mikuni carb on my wide glide. There is a side section that needs to come off in order to access the slide and needle. Having trouble figuring out how to remove it though. Here's a shot looking straight down into the slide area. I have removed that screw at the top and the inner assembly withdraws partly, but not enough to remove the slide assembly. Anyone have any tips on doing this?

Thanks

Don

Remove the screw (circled in red) from the slide cross shaft, then pull the slide up and remove the small e-clip from the slide retaining pin (circled in red)l

Yep, just MAKE SURE THAT SCREW/BOLT IS DARN TIGHT and that the safety washer is firmly bent up against the flats on the head of the bolt when you put it back together.

I made the mistake of having a local indy boil out/rebuild my HSR 45 and he left that screw improperly tightened. Slide hung wide open on a ride soon afterward and I could have been killed, but for the grace of God. Got off easy with just a $50 tow bill. I also found 5 other less serious errors that he made in reassembling the carb. Lesson learned: Be damn careful whom you let wrench on your carb!
