I did not check to see how many times it was turned out before the rebuild I did turn it two and a half times out afterwards though. I just got it running I'm going to take it for a test right now.

Wanted to add you can also tell about you idle jet by how much or little you need your choke especially when cold, if you never need it you are rich, always even hot to lean.
Idles better without air cleaner to rich.
Baisic adjustment, screw in until engine speed reduces, screw out until engine speed reduces, split the difference in turns.

As part of your carb rebuild, replace the idle diaphragm.

Odd question but does the carb have an accelerator pump? The accelerator pumps were not installed on CV carbs until 89 to address the stumble upon initial acceleration issue. The other thing to look at is the needle, the early needles weren't that great compared to the late model needles.

It did have the pump. I think we are going to have to undo the thunder slide kit. I did notice it had an adjustable needle.

I can tell you from personal experience, a CV carb will always be easier to tune and perform at its best with all OEM/CV parts.
