As unleaded gas was coming to the market One major gas station advertised white gas it was clear no tint to no lead. 104 octane. Those big rough high compression engines V8 we had needed the high octane. Was a big selling point at the time.
World has changed we have found ways to make engines run and produce more power with less octane therefore the need of high octane fuel has faded. They have also found ways to make high compression engines run on lower octane fuel. Octane is how fast a fuel ignites not the power you get out of it.
