Am I on the right track

Am I on the right track
2003 lowrider, new to me with just shy of 10k miles. I didn't get a lot of history on it, no idea what jets are in the carb. Starts easy with the enrichner out and will idle fine. When you close the enrichner, idle drops to about 750 which I know is problem one. She also coughs and stumbles on accelleration, especially while cold. With the enrichner out just enough to hold idle at 1k she runs great, no issues. That is how previous owner was running it. Running rich, plugs are black. I'm not after ever last drop of performance so I plan to run on the rich side of the line. Up the idle to 950 or so and open up the idle mixture screw about an 1/8th? New plugs and a few miles? Is that logical or too simple? I'm new to bikes and Harley carbs so just making sure.

How far have you ridden it with the enricher just holding idle? I had an '03 from new and it was a cold beast, would take several miles before the enricher could be pushed right home.
Altering idle is easy enough. There is an adjuster screw on the underside of the carb body, close to the air filter back-plate. From new there is a blanking plug covering it, which you may need to remove, to access the screw underneath it. There are several Stickies at the top of this section, check them for details on how to do that.
