Default Harley CV Carb Vacuum Hose Question

I am currently doing some basic maintenance on a friends 1999 FatBoy and one of his list of "To Do" things was to find out why the float bowl on his Keihin Harley CV carb kept spewing gas all over the motor every time we shut the bike off. First and foremost was to add the drain tube but it was still dumping gas all over the ground so I decided to have my mechanic neighbor rebuild it. The bike hasn't been run in a while and probably needed it anyway. While I was pulling the carb out of the intake, the vacuum hose near the top behind the carb came off. I need to post a pic but I need to know what that vacuum hose attaches to...from the carb to what? I can't seem to see anything it should connect to anywhere around the intake... HELP!!

Should run to the vac port on the inboard side of the fuel shutoff valve on bottom of fuel tank. Even when I leave my valve in the "on" position, I do not lose any gas. No gas should flow from the fuel tank without vac from the carb (or other source such as a vac pump) regardless of valve position, if shutoff valve is working correctly. Sounds like maybe carb float level needs to be adjusted also, or viton fuel shutoff valve/needle inside the carb is bad. The rebuild should fix that. & sounds like the fuel shutoff valve is not working on "shutoff."

It may alternatively, or additionally, go to a VOES, a 'vacuum operated electrical switch', which interacts with the ignition module. In either or both cases it is essential! To get a better idea of what goes into your bikes you can use any of the on-line parts websites, like this one.

Default Figured it out so far....

Thanks grbrown and M&P340. It does go to the VOES (Vacuum Operated Electrical Switch) right under the tank behind the carb. Unfortunately I broke off the plastic air inlet valve on the top of the VOES so I am off to find another one to replace the broken one.

grbrown, thanks also for the great parts link! That will help immensely.

This thread is a bit old, but I broke the exact same part that was connected to the hose. Anyone know where I can find one?

Looks like J&P have them. Simply google 'harley voes', which should provide you with a link.
