05 sporty Revs fine but sputters on accelleration
As the title reads I have an 05 sporty that is carbed. The bike has been sitting for about a year so today I opened up the carb and cleaned her out. Took the bowl off and cleaned and basically "pressure washed" the entire carb with carb cleaner and compressed air.
The bike fired right up but did not want to idle so I tried giving it throttle and it just kept dieing. Finally I figure out if I would just rev it back and forth instead of holding the throttle open it that it would stay alive and finally it warmed up enough to idle.
Well it is idling like crap and if I try to slowing accelerate the throttle the bike stumbles and backfires out of the carb. When I just rev it by flicking my wrist but not holding it the bike sounds fine and doesnt stumble.
Any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated.

I am having a similar problem with my wife's 05 Sportster 1200. I didn't put Sta-bil in last fall and am having some issues with that first little twist of the throttle. A little cough and sputter, but at anything over idle all is fine. Normal power and acceleration. Drained the gas and changed plugs and it got a little better yet. Hoping that just some fuel system cleaner and miles will make it come out of it.

Check for any error codes using your speedo
Also have been reading a lot about the Crank Position Sensors and a high failure rate on these bikes. Its a easy fix but the part is $60 bucks. Worth keeping a spare.
Rough idle, pops, staling, hard to keep running etc.
Not everyone gets codes either.

I have changed my Crank Position Sensor and I still have the pops and backfire out the carb.
Just took carb and jets out - all looks clean but cleaning again. Running a 175 main and 45 low jet which should be good for my bike.
Also replaced all three intake gaskets and there are no leaks.
The only thing I saw was with the AC off on accel there was no gas spray until I went to a much higher rev. Dont know if that is normal.
