Default Lean backfire advice?

I bought an 05 carbed softail yesterday. It has exhaust and stage 1 air cleaner on it. I had back firing and popping on deceleration and crappy idle. When I pull the choke on slightly the bike smooths and runs great with no popping or backfire. So my instinct is to screw the mixture screw out just a little. Any one agree or disagree? Thanks

First thing to do Tramp. Put a set of intake manifold seals on it. It's a easy job that's costs nothing. If they leak u will chase your tail. I try and run the aftermarket blue ones. Sorry don't have a part number
Oh congrats on the new ride !

Well I took your advice and replaced the intake manifold gaskets and that took care of it. Runs strong! 18 dollars and some time. Thats my kinda fix! Thanks again.
