Default cold weather blues

Im getting a spit and sputter just above idle when accelrating when bike is cold. Also noticed it does not want to go to wot without sputtering. Seems better with choke pulled out, but then af course my rpm is up there. I just started out of nowhere. Its a 95 evo

sounds like it is running lean .
might want to clean/repair your fuel system before you ride it.

lean conditions can lead to blown top end.
nasty little holes appear in the top of the pistons

Don't try accelerating too briskly when cold! Ride your bike a few miles until it is warmed up fully. The choke is for starting it when cold and you can use it briefly while riding it. Doesn't sound to me as if there is anything wrong, just be patient!

Sounds like an air leak at the manifold, either at the carb to manifold gasket or manifold to head gasket. There are many threads that cover troubleshooting an air leak. It causes a lean condition which is probably why it runs better with the enricher pulled out.

I have a '91 EVO with fresh dual exhaust and new mufflers installed. That indeed changed my carb settings, thinking I am running a bit lean now. I'm curious, what carb do you have? The thread title points to changing air temps. Are you saying it spits sputters and stumbles when it gets below a certain temp (colder outside)? That's what I am experiencing right now, I have an S&S Super E carb. Fine when warmer outside above 60 degrees. Below 50 degrees I experience the issue. We are also pretty humid up here in the midwest if that has anything to do with it. Please keep us posted as to what you have done or are going to do and if you find a solution. Don't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to post so I can monitor what you are going through and compare to my issue. Thanks!

You really know how to put a scare into someone, LOL. Would there be a high heat condition if that were the case? ie... oil temp being a 1st indication?

lol, sorry for the scare , however it is a reality.

I think you would hear detonation before you would see a oil temp problem.
I/E pinging on acceleration =not good.
pinging at cruising speed = really bad
