Default what did I miss/mess up

2000 FXDL with V&H Big Shots...

I had lost the ability to accelerate and maintain speed on the highway. I also had excessive fuel leaking from air filter. So I rebuilt my carb with a Genuine James kit. Put everything back together...bike starts ok, idles well. If I hit the throttle, the bike stalls. If I have the choke out, I can hit the throttle and get the RPMs up normally, but I can only do that once.
So what did I miss or do wrong?

Thanks,
Mike

Check the needle jet (the part in the bottom of the carb throat that the needle passes through), it may be installed upside down. That will allow the engine to idle normally, but not increase RPM.

If that is what it is, you are the one zillionth person (including me) to make that mistake...
