What springer front will fit 1999 Sporster 1200
I probably dont even know enough to ask this question intelligently. I am looking at a good deal on a 1999 Sportser 1200. Which I simply have no reason to buy. Unless, it could be a project.
Not knowing crap about building a bike, I though adding a springer front end to an otherwise stock bike would be a very cool and perhaps challenging start. I could do a little easy fab to reuse fender and lights. I want to use my tires and stock wheels. Calipers if needed. Even keep handlebars. Over time do more. For now, try and get a retro look, not a raked out chopper look. maybe I would like one center mounted shock.
I have no idea which of the dozens of various speced front ends would work. Can anyone say definitely what model and brand of springer would fit with least hassle and minimal change to the stance or geometry of the bike. I took a quick look on J&P Cycles.
I did not buy the bike. Thinking winter project.

Here is one. Simple black paint, easy to tig on a fender bracket. No shock - but; Nice price.
In case the link does not work, this is a Hardbody 24" universal fit. Skill required.

Do I need to measure the bike and see if I have 24" now? What hassle can I expect to get the brakes setup?
Even less cost on eBay (black or chrome):

Same springer is $200 cheaper on ebay
Probably want a 22" for a sporty.
You will need at least a springer brake bracket...or use the $200 you just saved to buy the whole brake.

Yea, I found BobberPros, my 2nd link. They did not mention the brand. That is the same? I am all for saving $200. And, Bolt on brackets, good.
Is 22" vs 24" something I would measure when I got the bike home?
I think I could fab a brake bracket with a little more information. If that is all it takes. Then front brakes are pretty important. More to learn here.
I am already thinking of plan B. Down the road and if I get the nerve - They have weld on hard tails. I assumed I needed a whole frame and new VIN.
The big pieces seem relatively cheap and the little bits can run up the bill fast if not careful or creative. Or so it seems to this noop, after one day study.

I got curious and asked at the local safety inspection garage and found out that chopping/modifying a bike definitely varies from state to state. Conn is wide open, no safety inspection. He thought Florida was the same. Here in Mass, I have to keep directionals on the motorcycle. By the book ,1/2 the modified bikes on the road would fail or squeek by in a gray area.
Good news they make some incredibly small directions that meet code. I will check back with him before I begin any work. No problem, you just need to know all the tricks and limitations up front.
