Default Ironhorse -Replaced Roadmax with Ultima

Following some info I found on other sites I replaced my Roadmax 6 speed RSD transmission on my 2005 LSC with an Ultima 6 speed RSD. The Ultima 201-33 trans is a direct fit, but there are a few things you need to know. The Ultima neutral switch won't work, and your original AIH switch won't work either. You need Harley pn 33904-00A, about $15. You also need to use the trans pulley from the Roadmax, not the one that comes with the Ultima. The Ultima pulley is aluminum, so the magnetic speed sensor on the AIH will not work. You also need to use the AIH pulley cover because it has the speed sensor provision, the Ultima cover does not. I just reused the AIH clutch acuator also to keep the horse logo. There is no clutch pushrod included with the Ultima, so reuse your original. There is an area on the bottom of the trans case that needs to be filed or ground down, right near the front left stud, to allow it to sit flush on the frame. The roadmax had similiar grinding on it's case. The Ultima has 5 studs on the bottom, one is unused on the AIH, and can be cut off. Also be sure to test fit the inner primary case and check the shifter movement. Mine needed the splined shifter arm rotated forward slightly so the arm had free travel without hitting the primary case. So far the Ultima works very well, but I only put about 35 miles on it during initial testing. It seems like the effort required to move the shifter is a little more, but maybe it just needs more break in.

If anyone is looking for Roadmax RSD, I have two. One has some gears with broken teeth. The other works fine except sometimes in 3rd gear (and ONLY 3rd gear) it slips and jumps like it is jumping out of gear and right back in. Doesn't do it all the time, and is probably an easy fix. For the sake of time I just replaced it. Send me a PM if you are interested in either/both.

Sorry to try and revive this 5 year old topic. I recently purchased an 05 Ironhorse Outlaw and have discovered that the trans is a weak link. I stumbled upon this topic and figured I’d try to ask a couple quiestions. How has the Ultima held up, was it a fairly simple swap? Judging from the part number, yours is/was a cable clutch?

It's working just fine.
Yes, cable clutch.

Thanks for the reply. Was it mildly simple or a pain? Your write up makes it seem pretty easy and straight forward.

I was very easy, but you do have to be mindful of changing over the parts I mentioned. And look for the area on the bottom of the case that yo need to grind down.

Thanks for the heads up. Once I grenade the Korean trans, I’ll probably be asking more questions.

I have many Ironhorse parts, let me know if you need anything.
If you know anyone with a rigid LSC or Tejas, I have both short and tall sissybars for sale.

I have an 06 outlaw model. It’s the soft tail with a 240mm rear tire. Not sure what all parts will crossover. I believe the outlaw shares the same parts as the LSC. I’ll have to double check though.

Depends what parts you are looking for. Some will, some won't.
