Default Thoughts on painting heat shields..

So sitting waiting for my freshly painted shocks to dry...and a little pissed because it was supposed to rain today...and it's sunny and perfect outside, I got to thinking about my heat shields. I've had pretty good luck with high temp paint in the past, more of a cosmetic question.

Black heat shields and chrome slip-ons?....goofy looking? Don't really want to yank the mufflers off. Thoughts?

For painting chrome its all in the prep. Goofy looking? HD has all the combos on their build you own site.

As for yanking the muffs, I have to pull mine just to adjust the chain on my Triumph. Its good to keep the connectors serviced because once they seize up, its 10x the work to break them loose.

Think I'm gonna do the shields and see how it looks. I can always pull the mufflers and do them as well, if I don't like it.

On a side note, my oven isn't big enough to bake them in...anybody ever used a grill....lol

Default Painted Shields

I don't know about paint but I paid 50 bucks and had mine powder coated to match the motor.

I've had bad luck painting my heat shields. I run a 107" so maybe its just hotter but the paint never held up well (turned grey and peeled). And had the proper prep and all. VHT 1200 in flat black is what I used.

I would go with high temp ceramic powder coat if I had a source locally.

I think I'm gonna just wait. Got to thinking I don't wanna eff up my stock heat shields. I have some V&H big radius pipes I got secondhand through a buddy. Can't put em on until I get a tuner. Plan on the full stage 1 this winter. In the meantime I might get those powder coated.

No need for hi temp powder coat on shields. Regular PCI is fine.

I did mine with hi-temp paint and used the bike to "set" the paint. It never peeled. It didn't look great by any means, but it looked okay that people thought I had it professionally done from 5-10 feet away.
