What is the width of the nacelle for the top tree? Just wondering if it is wider or narrower than my Fat Bob trees. I know Harley has the newer Freight Train nacelle kit for the Fat Boys and Heritage's. Surdyke sells the entire kit for $354. Just need to know widths before I decide which way to go.

Width of top tree is 11.5 inches on my widglide front end, but I have a FXD with 28 degree neck, the newer freight train kit for softails will only work if you have a 32degree neck due to headlight aim

I was thinking of selling my fat bob trees and pick up a set up wide glide trees since I'll be running a 23" wheel this coming winter and would like it to be out just a bit further. I know with fat bob trees the distance from center axle to the ground would go up 1.525", so just wondering with wide glide trees would I be ok to use the Freight Train kit and adjust the headlight beam to where it needs to be.

wideglide trees will give you a little more rake, but not sure if it will be enough to use the softail nacelle, member ackman tried using fatboy trees and the headlight would only light up just in front of the wheel and not far out enough even with headlight aim adjustment, also if you want the fork tube covers it won't work with stock widglide trees unless you get 60-84 FL trees with the mounts for the tube covers, hope this helps

One last question. Was the top of the nacelle wider than your trees? The 49mm wide glide trees are 12.25" wide. so just wondering if I could have the shovelhead one widened out on the side to accommodate my trees.

Great job, man. I can't believe no one offers a straight-up kit for something like the freight train nacelle on a late model Dyna.

Have you looked into using a Switchback Headlight/Nacelle parts. Both the Switchback and the Fat Bob use the same axle, which tells me the trees are the same width also and in turn the parts might fit with very little modification required. Just an idea. As to the rake between them the Fat Bob rake is 29° and the Switchback is 29.9° which would put your light almost 1° down, but I would imaging that that can be adjusted out. Also, remember that when/if you add the Wide Glide trees you be gaining trail which will change your handling. Adding the 21" to mine gave me about an .5" more trail.

Robtarra39, you did a great job on your home made bracket. Good info in this thread.

I don't know if this matters or not, but a Switchback has 41mm forks, vs. all the other Dynas having 49mm forks. I'm guessing there is a size difference in the trees.

By the way, OP cool looking setup.
