Sounds like he is good to go...

No need to change oil repeatedly, filters etc. as some suggested.

The next time he posts on here it will be I forgot to check the oil and the light is on and the engine is smoking and knocking.......

You sure know how to stir the honey pot...

You opened a topic with "I ran my engine with low oil, what did I damage" and followed up with, "What oil should I use."

Yup, you're right. So I put her in the garage and will be changing all her fluids.

Give the guy a break. He admitted to ****ing up and came here to ask an honest question from honest people not to get flamed. He then asked if one oil is better than the other for the most part. Lay off the poor guy and thrown him a bone. **** like go get a service manual and giving him **** is not helping his cause or helping his bike.

So I'll be that guy. #1 yes running the bike that low is BAD however if it is not making any odd noises and behaving normally after you filled it then simply change it out. Ride for 200 miles, change it again with some decent oil of your choice. A lot use mobile 1 or amsoil. Your choice. Read reviews online dont just ask and assume. I make a habit of checking my oild and wheel pressure every other fill up of gas as I am a bit ****. Some would say check it every 250-500 miles. Or do as others have and get a digital dip.

Default Type of oil

Ask 1% club member what oil they use. They ride their stuff hard and fast, and it has to last. My mechanic is a 1% club member and a childhood friend and when I do something to my bike, call me a poser or whatever you guys want to, but it is what he or some members are running. I have a 99 FXDX with stock 88 that I run the dog stuff out of with 50,000 or 60,000 miles on it and no major breakdowns as of yet. Hope I didn't jinx myself. Good luck.

OP do you still have the oil filter that was on the engine when it was run low. If there is any damage, bearing flaking, pealing or any other damage it will be in the filter itself. That what filters do is catch the trash. cut the metal cover off the filter and then cut the paper of the center section and open the paper up like an accordion. look for small dabree, metal flakes. No dabree, no Damage.

I'm a member of Saintan's bust me NOW mc and I resent your suggesting that us 1%ers are smart. We're slobbering neanderthals, with bad breath and worse attitudes, and if we aint beat your *** yet, it won't be long!
