Two big differences between ANY 2005 and ANY 2007 big twin: Engine & Transmission. '05 is a Twin Cam 88, which is fine except it has spring-type cam chain adjusters which many people spend money to replace with gear-driven cams because they can fail and cause lots of damage. The '07 has hydraulic adjusters and should be fine (some will disagree and say you still need gear-driven cams).

The '05 is a 5-speed. The '07 is a 6-speed and has a higher overdrive which is better for interstate cruising--you can ride 80 mph and the engine is running at a fairly relaxed speed. Also the 6 is a different, more modern, type of transmission and shifts smoother.

You can search and read a lot more about these two subject here on the forum.

I bought a 2007 mostly for these two reasons. I didn't even look at anything older. 2006 Softails are the old. 2006 Dynas are a mishmash of old and new which I, myself would avoid like the plague. Some will disagree, but if you have a choice, why burden yourself with anything older than a 2007.

$10K seems high for the low rider, but most dealer prices will be. Fatboys are very popular and will always be high. The low rider is by far the smarter buy of the two.

If you want ride the bike get the Dyna. If you want to look at the bike, get the Softail

10k seems nuts. I also only looked at 07 up for the reasons mentioned above. Too bad its all-year riding an AZ (well, not really) up in new England, this time of year they would deal hard on an 07 sitting on the dealer lot all winter.

Don't pay more than 8500.

10k is to much. I bought mine used in 2010. $9600 with 3600 miles. Cover, Manuel, Stock 2 up seat and a LePera Bare Bones. Full Stage 1 with Vance and Hines BSS and Fuelpack and HD high flow AC. Check the local papers, Craig's List etc. to find a good deal on what you want. Mine replaced my 08 Street Bob and I only looked at 07 and up for the TC 96, 6 Speed Trany. There are a lot of great deals out there, you just have to look and be patient.
