My son's 2004 FXDLI is fuel injected...my 2001 FXD is not...mine sounds better at idle, both have pretty much the same performance, but he does get better gas milage...

Well my 2006 has FI. I bitched up a storm on the forums how bad i thought it sucked as for performance. Only thing i did like was the ease of starting the bike with out using a choke. But then i bought a Power Vision tuner and played with it some. Now i will say i kind of like the EFI set up although i am running the bike in open loop all the time now and i aint no where close to the factory settings on my EFI and timing either.

Don't know what the fuel milage is and really don't care...I don't nit-pick that kind of stuff. We have the same size tank and either I have to fill up sooner or it takes more to fill it up when we both top-off.

The biggest advantage with fuel injection is their is no power loss when going up in elevation / mountains. Carb'ed bikes that are jetted for sea level don't have the same power when up in the mountains. Carb'ed bikes are harder starting sometimes.

If fuel injected motor is tuned right, it is good, especially cold climate. If carb is tuned right, even better! But it doesn't run as good in the cold, don't forget carburettor icing.

I'm a carb man from way back but am pretty excited about the more advanced EFI where you can create a custom map for fueling and timing based upon RPM, engine load and throttle position and then even by gear.

Sure, gaining a solid, working understanding of EFI and adapting it to your app may not be quick, cheap and easy... but then again neither was properly dialing in a Weber 45DCOE.

As for the HD carb, the late CV design is pretty easy to dial in with excellent all around performance for normal applications. www.CV-Performance.com has about everything you need to economically maximize the HD CV carb.
