Default How do you get a non-oem battery out of a 2006 dyna ?

I bought a 2006 super glide, and it appears the previous owner did a lot of self solutioning (rigging), resulting in nothing being stock.

Somehow they managed to jam a Walmart Everstart battery into the battery box and it's not coming out.

I even tried pulling on the battery posts using weed whacker nylon as a rope to no avail while inventing a few new curse words.

Does anyone have tips or tricks for dislodging batteries ?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Stock HD battery is a tight fit and a pain to remove sometimes. Pulling on top posts only won't work you need to kind of wiggle it out. Either top and bottom or side to side. Very little room so it takes a few minutes. If the ever start was jammed in that might not work either. Once you get it started it should slide ride out.

Did you remove the bolts holding the battery box in place so you can drop the box down giving you more room to get the battery out and the new one in?

I guess I just have to keep at it. Maybe I'll try squirting WD40 around the inside edges.

Kills me that what should be THE EASIEST DIY job on a Harley is turning out to be a multiple day task.

Thanks.

Harley guys are pretty resourceful at times. Reminds me of the old saying viggle it in, viggle it out, and vipe it off. I would try and locate the previous owner and ask him just how in the ----- he got it in there.

2 bolts hold the battery box in. Remove them.
Remove the cables from the terminals
Drop the box and swing it out.
Now grab hold of the sonofabitch and use your manhood to pull it out.

(I've run 2 Everstart batteries in my 05 Dyna. It really isn't that difficult. The problem with the Everstarts are they are slightly taller than a stock HD battery.)

I got a fairly thick strap of leather and punched some holes in it big enough for the bolt holes. Then bolt it on the battery and you've got something to pull on. Not sure about your Dyna but it works on my Streetglide.

No, I didn't think the bolts under the seat had anything to do with the box other than hold it to the frame.

Will give it a shot later this afternoon.
