S&S Hydraulic Tappets 33-5350

Closed up the cam chest yesterday but still have to take the PR tubes and lifter blocks to PC so be at least a week before I can finish.
This Heartland installer makes things simple with being able to see the bearing going in, to easy (knock on wood).
I'll put the SE clutch spring in this week, and whatever else comes along.

Did a quick price check: HD part 18538-99C $134 at a discount online Harley parts seller and made in Mexico vs S&S part 33-5350 $104 at Amazon and made in USA.
Let me think......

Gaterman gp1021 is around 120pr and are new old stock b lifters last I knew. Hammer Performance sells them. I also heard mention of ball hex. I would advise to not tq the inner with a ball hex but rather use the short end of the allen key and snug them tight going in opposite corners in small increments. Don't ask me how I know.

Yeah, a warning on using a ball end hex is appropriate. The torque is 90-120 in-lbs, not a lot but need to keep the tool as vertical as possible with a solid engagement and maybe not going for the max of 120 in-lbs. Another technique is to to as slydog mentioned but as you get it reasonably tight, torque the outside to say 105 in-lbs, then move the fastener a touch more with a stardard Allen wrench - now you will have a feel for tightening the inside difficult ones.

Hmm, knew the stators were upgraded but not heard that on the clutch spring. I imagine the new Harleys that are equipped with the 255 cams stock have the SE spring but I'll check and if anyone knows please let us know. Yep. Basically how I envisioned doing it. I flipped a coin, heads was three reefs past snug and tails was all the above, thankfully tails won!
