Default HD Premium Oil Cooler Kit Installed

I bought the Harley premium oil cooler kit, part number 26151-07b, and got it installed. Installation was fairly simple. With a few standard hand tools, the kit can be installed in a couple of hours. Harley quoted me 2 hours to do the job plus an oil change, so I went ahead and installed it myself. Total install time took me 2.5 hours / with oil change. I did have to go pick up an extra tool (7/16 allen) to install the oil filter new adapter. This size allen is not usually included in your standard package.
I told myself I would take pictures throughout the installation, but as most of us occasionally do, I forgot…..If you have any questions, feel free to ask away. I haven’t had much saddle time to determine how much the oil cooler will drop the oil temperature. Hopefully the oil cooler along with the wards cooling fans will keep my engine nice and cool!

Your engine should never get very hot with both of those cooling mods!

Guess you did not make a deal for my old Bassani black exhaust end piece?

Had a deal to swap them out but I ended up scratching the bottom of my end cap so I decided just to keep the one I had. Might get it powder coated later on.

Not to sound like a total idiot, but why is this necessary? High summer temps making the engine run too hot or is it more for rider comfort?

IMO, anything that helps cool the engine in a more efficient matter is beneficial. Ive had pretty high oil and head temperatures in the past. Trying to cool the bike down for more riding comfort and to help the air cooled engine last longer.

I threw a Jegg (http://www.jagg.com/750-2500.html) low-mount oil cooler with the thermostatically-controlled oil filter adaptor that starts to allow oil thru the cooler around 180 degrees, is fully open around 190 degrees, it was night and day difference on how much cooler the oil temp was after installing.

Oil life should also increase some if it runs cooler.

I plan to put the same oil cooler on my bike soon as well as the Vibra-technics motor mount (only one that works with a low mount oil cooler.) let us know how much temps drop!

The Harley oil cooler also has a thermostat that opens at 185.

I've done five installs over the past few years and have one to go with the 14 Low Rider.

I bought a set of allen wrenches in 1/2" sockets cheap at HF and it had the correct size.

Never had a leak. Just followed the instructions and torqued to spec. I skipped the oil change and saved time. Very little comes out of the filter. Didn't even need to top off after a ran the bike.

In stop and go traffic I have never had a TC over heat. Took one through Death Valley in the summer afternoon at 120 degrees. No problem. It was on my 10 Ultra.
