Yup that's what I would do and resell any good parts that are left. Used 96 or 103's can be had fairly cheap on eBay if you didn't want to do an S&S crate.

Sorry man, I misunderstood....thought you were calling him a sucker. For you, keep looking there are some good deals with salvaged bikes with light damage. I stay away from anything with more than "side" damage. My bike that I purchased had some minor cosmetic damage, bags, fairing cracked, exhaust bracket broken. It was advertised as certified that it runs, low miles and said I took a chance and got it for a steal of a price. Looking back, I guess I could have gotten burned too. I would do it again, it was fun finding the parts and putting it back together.
