Well finally got around to doing the external breather mod! You can see in the pics below there was a little bit of oil sitting there (beginning of last riding season was the only time I took the caps off).
My idea from the first page won't work on the heavy breather because there is nowhere near enough clearence to make a clean hole and be able to just stick a 90 degree bend rubber hose onto the breather bolt. Those chrome caps sit inside much further than I anticipated. Other/easiest, but not cleanest way would be to just drill though the chrome cap and stick a hose right in.
Cost about $20 to do it buying the 2 fittings, 2 small set screws from ACE Hardware & 8' of windshield fluid hose from AutoZone. I decided to run 2 lines instead of teeing off into 1.
Hack sawed off half of the thread from each of the fittings so they screw in flush, drilled and tapped the backing plate. Then I tapped the holes that lead the oil into the motor and set the set screws in place w/ some red locktite. After running the hoses down I had about foot that I cut of of each.
Couldn't be happier and now I have a bit more peace of mind that my expensive motor it sucking in fresh air.

I'll try to take a pic when I get home tonight, but I took both tubes right under the engine case and right over the frame bar that the left mid control bolts to. Then I zipped tied it there and dumped them down. Its the perfect amount of space and out of the way of things.
