Once you increase the airflow (High flow Air Cleaner, Exhaust, and Tuner) you increase the horsepower/performance of the bike. It is natural for the bike at this point to get worst fuel economy than when it was stock.
.
Strongly disagree. My 96" got better mileage after the stage 1 mods and I consistently got 48-49mpg around town (mix freeway and light to light) and 53-54mpg out on the open road. My 103 stock and after stage 1 I get about the same. Around town 43 and highway 45-46. If I get stuck in a traffic jam or riding in congested conditions it goes down a little. I've gotten as low as 40mpg ONCE which was daily riding to work and hit multiple traffic jams on that tank of fuel.

I have never really thought about the mpg I get. When I commute back and forth to work, 17 miles each way some of which is stop and go, I get 120-150 miles (30.8-38.5mpg) out of a tank. When doing trips where I am at a consistant 50-80mph I have push 220 miles (56.4mpg) on a tank, usually around 180-190 miles (46.1-48.7mpg). I usaually put 3.8-4.0 gallons in when I fill her up.

How would one expect better mpg when doing 11 miles each way. Starting it every 11 miles in town traffic your not gonna get much. Get on a back road and ride a tank out then check it manually, not with a electronic gizmo.
My 113 gets 38 in town riding but i don't stop every 11 miles either.
It gets 45 mpg on back roads riding close to the speed limit.
Ss106 gets 42 on highway and down to 38 in town.

: agree I always check based off of how many miles from last fill and how much goes in and try to fill to the same spot. Seems to vary 36 to 42 depending on vs hwy & how hard I'm on it. And that's on my stock 103 w/stage 1. Haven't had a chance to check after my recent changes.

Default Same as OP, but....

I'm running the SE Stage III w/259E cams and Thunder Header exhaust. Average MPG is 36 Hwy and 30'ish around town. BUT.....I have the hardest time staying out of the throttle.

In addition to what others have posted..the short shots are not helping at all. My buddy and I had identical bikes, when we added hi-flow aircleaner, and he added short shots, the mileage dropped to the range you are experiencing...while me, adding my big shots, dropped to the 42-45mpg range that. Stock we both got 46. This was before any other mods. Even with everything i have done now...and a heavy hand, I still get 40.

I've got the v+H big shots with stage 1 as well and I've gotten between 38-43 mpg, I'm carbed 5 speed 88ci. I run mine hard 70-80 mph, 70 interstate miles every day with a 20x20 windshield. we had some rough wind this week and I only got 38, worst I ever got on the bike, normally I'll get 41 with the shield in summer, I want to take the shield off when it gets warm and get better mileage.

best speed for mileage is about 60 mph, I noticed it gets better on the slower paced weekend rides.

I wouldn't listen to these guy saying they are getting 50 mpg plus, that's pie in the sky numbers

but I reminded myself today to always run 93 octane, I was switching between 89 & 91 for the last few weeks to save that 40 cents a gallon, something happened to gas price today & 93 was only 4 cents more so I put it in, man what a difference, will always run 93 from now on,, maybe that why my mileage sucked..

way to many factors to account for mpg.But short stop and go's is about the worst milage you will get aside from 100 miles an hour for a 100 miles!Air fuel mistures do not like cold conditions. The next most common factor to poor performance tends to be a heavy hand!

My 99 WG will get 42 MPG on the highway running 65-70. The best she gets around town will be 32-34.

Short hops and quick trips like that will hardly get the bike up to operating temperature, add in some throttle blippin' and it ain't hard to figure where the mpg's are going.
