For a plug/play application in either a 96" or 103", an Andrews 48 or a Wood 222.

I put Andrews 48's in my 96". I like the way they worked out for me, and after close to 30,000 miles with them I don't feel that they're lacking at all. My entire set-up is a Doherty Powerpacc intake, V&H slipons with the quiet baffles, Andrews 48 cams, 030 head gaskets, and Mastertune TTS with a good professional tune. The nice flat torque curve makes for excellent drivability throughout:

I ran with Andrews 37h cams for over a year, great cams. Hit hard at about 2200 rpm to redline. They are .510 lift with a stock base circle which means you can keep your stock pushrods. They do very well in a stock 96. $25 for rocker box gaskets or you can spend $125+ for adjustable pushrods. I did a 107 last year and have the 37h cams on the shelf if your interested.

S&s 510
Running an S&S 510 with a gear drive, TTS, SE air cleaner and a basani 2:1 and got similar dyno numbers as the one shown with the Andrews. One of the reasons I chose the cam was the flexibility to use with a stock engine or one that has been bored with more compression and head work. It has great mid range and seat of the pants felt like the bike gained as much HP/torque as it did with the exhaust alone. It seems that when you go much bigger you lose a lot of bottom end.

I started off with a 96" and installed Wood 555 cams and a Thundermax tuner. Otherwise stock except Stage 1 AC and 2-2 pipes. It added power on the top end, but seemed lacking on the lower end. I decided instead of changing cams to pull the heads, have them ported, installed a 103" kit, .030 head gaskets to bump the compression, and a 2-1 exhaust. Way more money spent, but I'm really happy with the results.
If I was going to stay 96" with stock compression, I'd probably go Andrews 48, or Wood 222.
