Default Suspension and Cam upgrades.

So, I've finally saved up some money and have decided I'mgoing to upgrade the rear suspension and cams on my 2003 DWG (big sucker and V&H exhaust). As far as suspension goes I'm going to go with either the Ohlin #2a or the #3-3 built by Howard.

As far as Cams go I still haven't made up my mind. I did some research two years or so ago and pretty much forgot which one I was going to go with. I think the 26N as I’ve always been leaning towards Andrews, but will be open to any suggestions. I want low end torque for better acceleration off the line. What else do I need to purchase to convert the bike for the new cams? (Sorry for my lack of knowledge. I know Andrews and Herko use to have kits to install the hydrallic tentioners. Is this a requirment to work with the cams or can I just replace the shoes if need be?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Yes, you can just replace the shoes. Lots of folks here like Cyclo cam tensioner pads.

You should replace the camshaft bearings with full compliment bearings. Adjustable pushrods are optional, depending on whether you want to open the rocker boxes or not.

Depending on your mileage, you may want to consider replacing the lifters. 03 had the good HD lifters (B lifters) but they are a maintenance item and if mileage is high you should replace them with good quality aftermarket lifters. Current HD and S/E lifters are poor quality and many failures have been reported.

Thanks nhrider1! I only have about 16,XXX on the bike... I'm assuming that's not considered a lot for the "b" lifters? I would have to pick different cams then, correct? as the Andrews appear to only work with conversion or gear. I could be reading that wrong.

-B lifters should be Ok with only 16K miles.

Andrews has a standard 26 cam (26A) that will bolt in. The 26N's are conversion cams used with the newer cam plate upgrade.

Either the Andrews 21 or 26s. The 21's make a bit more torque down low.
If you think you may go to 95" down the road then the 26s might be a better choice. The 21's run great in stock 88" motors.

Your choice as either will work well. Call Andrews tech support for their advice if in doubt.
