I have the same bike with 31,800 miles on it. I bought it new and have not had any problems with the cam chain tensioner yet. Last summer I had to replace the starter clutch, but that is the only thing I have had done other than the scheduled maintenance. I had new tires put on at about 15,000 miles and still have those mounted. I use a battery tender over the winter and still have the original battery installed. We some decent weather today, so I got out and put a couple hundred miles on it. Hope your buddy enjoys the bike.
