I'm pretty sure it's an All-***** starter (either 1.4 or 1.7KW). I've searched through my FXR file that's an inch thick, and I can't find the damn receipt to verify it.

In my case it's probably overkill, because my engine is only an 89" stroker with 10:1 compression, and I have manual compression releases. They make it very easy for the starter to turn the engine.

Thanks. I'm gonna go with a 1.7KW this time. The last one only lasted 5 months.

I have a stock starter that is wired with a double relay. One relay opens the comp releases, the other cranks the starter so they do not go at exactly the same time. Bike starts on the first try every time. This is the only way to do it. I'll talk to my buddy who did it and get specifics on what he did. This is a must with a big motor.

When i got the bike the starter was shot as it was not done like this initially. I replaced all the broken crap in there (quite a few pieces) and did the double relay and it has never given me a problem. Cold starts, hot starts, it's all good.

Isn't that the whole point? If you are going to build it, build it right!
