Windex will also strip any type of polish or wax that you put on that bike.

In 7 years my bike has only been washed 3 times. I maintain it with lemon pledge on the painted/chrome surfaces at least twice a month. WD40 & toothbrush on the motor twice a year to shine it back up. Wax it with Meguires scratch off then Meguiers NXT once to twice a year.

I'm a meguiars fan myself. Once a bike is clean I keep it looking good with a quick wipe down of their quick detailer and quick wax (buy the pro grade in bulk to save some money. I had to do a buff and polish on my bike last weekend. Just got it and the last owner had tank bras on it. I'll post some before and after pics later.

this is what i use

then I wake up.....

seriously though I just use a mild detergent then go over it with windex to get any water marks off.

then use a silicon spray on the black cases, 8 years of some pretty hard miles and pretty much still looks like new

To each their own. The one thing that is saving you form a huge amount of paint problems is Harley's paint is pretty top notch and can take more abuse than standard automotive paint.

10,000km worth of Australian desert bugs needed a little soaking...

And let's just say Mrs Dav was less-than-thrilled when she found the windscreen submerged in a bathtub full of greenish bug soup...

Use a spritzer bottle and plain water, keep it damp for a couple of hours and the bugs just wipe off. It also helps if you always wax after washing (and before a long ride), so the bugs and dirt are stuck on the wax layer, not embedded in the paint itself...

WTF ?
I like to keep mine clean too, but Wow! I think some of you are going a bit overboard.
Most days when it's really dirty I'll use a 5 gallon bucket, mitt and a chamois. I put something like Turtle Wax car wash or similar in the bucket. Spray the dirt off the bike, wash with the mitt. Let it soak a little if it needs to, then rinse it. Dry with the chamois and ride it. I carry a can of lemon Pledge and an old t-shirt in the bag for a quick tidy up and shine. My last several bikes have all stayed looking nice even 10 years later. Keep it clean, but I don't want to spend all my time shining. I want to ride.
C-ya ...
