Handlebar Advice?
Here is my dilemma. I purchased 13" LA Chopper Twin Peak bars for my 2013 Street Bob. I had an indy guy do the install because I didn't have the time or tools. There seems to be a LOT of play in the bars. So much so that if I hit a pothole or bump and naturally pull down on the bars they move quite a bit and do not return to the original position. They move enough that I have to adjust my mirrors until I can straighten the bars out when i pull over.
I was at the local HD shop for a bike night and talked with a technician about the problem. He said it was because the bars probably dont have knurls and to reach out to the guy who installed them to fix this. So I reached out and the indy guy came back and said " If everything is tight then your risers need replaced with a set of polyurethane. They probably are shot and with taller bars they wear faster because of stress points changing".
So now I'm confused and don't know how to figure out what the real issue is. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post!

The polyurethane he's referring to is the bushings between the risers and the upper tree. That isn't going to fix your problem, but one you get that solved the bushings will help eliminate slop in the risers. The stock rubber ones flex quite a bit, but that flex if you pull back on the bars will return back to the original position, if that makes sense.
It sounds like your bars are slipping in the risers. Are they torqued to spec? If the surface of the bars where the risers clamp on isnt knurled it could probably slip.

I believe those bars do have the knurls on them. At least they are on all the pics I've seen. Your riser bushings *shouldnt* be worn out. However, the rubber ones do flex quite a bit, like stated above. Sounds like your bars need to be torqued down properly, as stated above. Take it back to the indy shop and ask them to torque them.

The question is are you bars rotating in the clamps or are the risers pulling back and not returning? If the bars are rotating in the clamps then torque them, the TwinPeaks bars are knurled so if torqued correctly the should not move. If the risers themselves are pulling down and not returning, try torquing the nut under top of the triple tree that holds risers on. If riser is torqued but still sloppy replace the bushing
