Default Oil Level so intake doesn't leak

Just wondering what the oil level mark should be at so my 06 street bob doesn't leak out of my intake.

Side note: I've researched a bit about this and it seems to me that people are getting leaking out the intake, but wouldn't it leak enough so eventually the oil level would reach the proper level and not leak anymore. Just a thought of mine.

I can only tell you how I'm doing things... I've owned HD since the late 70's, on my Twin Cam's it's middle of the stick on a cold check running DK Custom breather bolts, zero, I mean no carryover; I run Valvoline VR1 SAE 50 in the engine. No carryover. Middle of the stick on a cold check, no more...

Would it stop eventually when it hits the correct level? Perhaps, do it right and you won't wear any on your jeans

As said, half way between ADD and FULL on a cold check. or at FULL on stick when hot. Just as your manual says.

If you are putting in the 3 quarts that the manual calls for you are probably about 1/2 quart over full. At least mine was.

This. I stopped putting in the 3 qts. Even though it looks like I should be adding according to the dip stick, if I do it just leaks out into the air filter.

Lightbulb Oil level hot

You will notice that if you use a quality synthetic motor oil and only fill to the middle of the oil stick , then after fully warming up the engine , and riding the hell out of it & putting it up wet and sweating , it will still be at the middle level on the stick ! I said quality oil , not Harley's synthetic blended oil !

Bought an 07 last October, and have put over 6000 miles on it. Fresh oil when I bought it, and changed it 3000 miles ago. Used Mobil 1, I overfilled it but it was at the top of the full mark cold and setting on the side stand. After 3000 miles it is still at the full mark cold and on the side stand. YMMV

Talking Oil puke'r

Harley's idea of using those cheaply made little rubber umbrella's in the head breathers are usually only good for about 25K miles before coming apart unless you reduce your oil supply by half a quart . MOCO's idea of covering up their mistakes (faulty engineering) are laughable !
