I shift mine at 3000-3200 rpm as suggested by my dealership...2015 FatBob, motor seams happier in that range

Most Harleys I've ridden seem to peter out about 4k rpm. I rode one of the new 103HO Wide Glides earlier this year and it pulled nicely to ~5500 rpm or so. Engine felt and sounded great throughout the range.

Harleys have small intake exhaust runners that promote good torque in the lower/mid RPM range, at the expense of "superior breathing" required for upper RPM range. They literally "run out of breath" in upper rpm's.
I have a 103HO and haven't noticed anything unusual in the upper RPM ranges. Then again, I don't spend much time there either.
