Default New rider obstacles and a question.

After a 25 years break from riding motorcycles I took the plunge and made an impulse purchase of a 2015 Street Bob. Due to my inexperience I decided to take a safety course at the local HD dealer before riding the bike. A couple of weeks later, one hour into the riding portion of the class, my left hand went totally numb . I was unable to finish the class. When the numbness went away I experienced a lot of pain and could not make a fist. My doctor sent me to a specialist and it turns out I had a pretty advanced carpal tunnel syndrome.

So, six months later , after my surgery healing , and many evenings of drooling over the Harley in my garage, I took the bike on a ride last Sunday morning. Needless to say , the bike road beautifully and I felt like a million bucks.

What I did notice is that I could not keep my feet flat on the ground when stopped. If the bike was an inch lower it would really be great . I was thinking of getting a Leather Badlander seat. Do you think that would be the best way to lower it an inch. I am not sure if I want to change suspension or anything just yet .

Are there other low profile seats you would recommend? Keep in mind I am a total newbie and have zero riding experience. Thanks for reading and any recommendation would be appreciated.

Having the surgery was the best you did. As far as seats there's so many choices, I went with the Mustang Tripper, great reviews and comfort. I'll be able to give you a little more info when l get it on the bike. Should be here early next week. I'm looking forward to it.

There's a lot of threads on seats. Swapping rear shocks is equally easy. Street bobs look sweet slammed!

My SB had Progressives on it when I bought it, I think they're an inch shorter than stock. I'm 6' with a 32" inseam and I can flatfoot both sides with room to spare. Not sure how tall/long legged you are, but a thinner seat and/or shorter shocks would probably work wonders for you.

As an aside, not being able to flatfoot both feet at a stop isn't really a major issue...now if you're tip-toeing both feet, well, that's a problem.

Thank for all the replies. I am 5ft 8in tall with a 30" inseam . I can almost stand flat footed with both feet. I think bringing it down an inch would do the trick .

I AM 5'6" AND WEAR 32/30 JEANS... I HAVE A 2007 SUPERGLIDE WITH SLAMMER SHOCKS AND A LE PERA BARE BONES SEAT WITH GEL. I HAVE BOTH HEELS ON THE GROUND EASILY.

I had the day tripper from mustang seats on my bob when I owned it. Sits you an inch lower to the ground, great seat I highly suggest checking it out.

Welcome to the forums!

You gonna ride down to Galveston for the Lone Star Rally in November?
