Default How much oil required for oil change?

the search function wasn't very intuitive, very simple question.

Doing a quick oil change, just wondering how much do the Dyna's take (2015, street bob, 103). I never go by service manual, because not all the oil is drained.

For example my sport bikes say 3.5 liters, but in reality after a drain, I only lose about 2.5 liters only so I only need to fill it 2.5 liters. What is it for these bad boy vtwins?

(yes I know, I can just measure out how much comes out when I do it but if someone knows off hand right off the back, it can help save me some time in measuring the old oil so I can spend more time riding and just do my quick final check with just the dip stick).

thanks in advance

Get 3 quarts. 4 if you use a scavenger flush tool.

A wet oil change will take 2.4 liters or 2.5 qts. I normally keep my oil level half way up the dip stick, not up to the full mark. Check the oil while its hot.

2.5 sounds good. Thanks for the quick replies.

Oil while hot for sure...not only is it quicker, it also gets out more of the gunk. Now i'll have to try my best to weasel out that oil filter, it's in such an awkward spot, hopefully one of my oil filter wrenches can squeeze in there.

You still need 3 quarts, I can't buy half a quart.

I use one of the cap-style ones. The clamping band ones are way-awkward.

What you might find more tricky is getting the filter out without getting oil over wiring, your front engine mount (oil can damage the rubber part) and generally making a mess. Because the filter is sideways not vertical, it doesn't drain out so when you first unscrew it oil pours everywhere.

HD sells a little spout that goes in behind it which I'm told works well. I make a disposable funnel from aluminum foil. Others use cardboard, cut-up plastic bottles etc...

I realize service manuals are a bit pricey but didn't you get an owner's manual, that little book has the correct fluid quantities you were looking for. Glad you got the information.

You obviously didn't understand my question. Service manual says 2.8 L... you never fill it up to max because there is always residual oil left in the engine hence that's why everyone has said 2.4 to .5L. Owners manual only refers to total oil capacity not what actually is required during a simple drain.
