After you have retracted the clutch cable, removed the derby cover, loosened the locknut you have to pull the clutch lever in a few times to reset the ball ramp mechanism

I did all of that with the cable and the derby cover adjusting the clutch but it still used 3/4th the adjustment on cable to take out slack for lever when done.

You've still got 1/4 of your adjuster left, that sounds about right. Does your clutch work ok? Doesn't drag, doesn't slip, starts to engage when your lever is 1/2" or so off the grip?

I just did mine by the manual and it just isn't right - I am going to take the cover off again tonight and readjust everything - If I find a method that works better I'll post it

Default RE: clutch adjustment?

Well I went back and readjusted mine tonight - here's what I did...

Loosen the jam nut on the clutch cable under the boot, loosen the big nut til there's a lot of slack and pull the lever a few times.

I loosened the lock nut on the pressure plate and backed off on the adjuster and then ran it all the way in hand tight with the extension and hex bit (no ratchet). The book says to lightly seat it - well that's nice and all but I took that has lightly and it was too loose so all the way in by hand without any extra effort and backed it out about 3/4 turn and tighten the lock nut.

Then adjust the cable by tightening the big nut til there's about an 1/8" free play. Tighten the jam nut.

Mine feels pretty good now
