Default Exhaust Gaskets

I'm about to install a Bassani Road Rage on my '00 FXDX. I'm heading to the dealer shortly for gaskets... Am I right in thinking that there are two styles of exhaust gaskets that could fit? "Late" and "early?" If so, which do I want?

Or is there really only one type of gasket?

Thanks!

I replaced mine last year on my '99 and the guy at the parts counter never mentioned a choice. They were (I think) a glass fiber reinforced graphite with a large chamfer/cone on the inside edge. We use graphite sheet at work for our furnace gasketing and these were a bit more fibrous than the sheets at work. Regardless, they worked fine. I didn't check the P/N, sorry.

Screaming Eagle part 17048-98 or Cometic makes the same style, much better than tapered stock style. Doesn't smash out and restrict exhaust flow.

That. The SE ones are flat circles, the standard ones are much bigger chamfered types. The SE ones will potentially give better airflow as they won't crush so much and protrude into the exhaust port airflow.

BUT. Some exhausts seem to have a difficult time getting a good seal with them. I have no idea whether the Bassani is one, but personally I would use the SE version as a first choice.

Best answer.
Just remember the exhaust flange bolts have a torque sequence and pretty low torque value, don't make the common mistake of over tightening the bolts.
It's like 110-120 inch pounds.

Thank you very much everyone... I'll go with the SE gaskets.

Exactly the info I was looking for!

We use Cometic's here.
They do not mask/crush into the port ID, once the pipe is installed.

I also used the SE gaskets from Harley with my Bassani pipe and have had no issues.

I use the stock Harley crush gaskets cause you can reuse them and they don't leak.
I made a nice install tool that works great,
When you take the stock gaskets out the head it's very clean behind there so I put new to keep it that way.
What's it look like with those tiny gaskets removed?
