Default Been painting my own bike!

I initially took the week off to go on a long ride but the places I wanted to go were showing bad weather. So I said screw it and decided to paint my bike myself and man has it been a chore!!

First thing I had to do was make my paint booth. One 10x10 easy up and 2 large drop clothes later with the help of a fan with a filter on each side and a filter at the opposite end to draw in clean air I have a booth!

I put the fan and filters in after I took the picture

Last week I pulled all the tins and sanded down the clear coat and scuffed up the fairing and hand guards with 400 grit.

Cleaned all the parts and since the fairing and hand guards are plastic I had to spray them with a plastic adhesion promoter so the paint would stick. Then after a few coats of primer and sanding I was ready to lay down the first base coat of color which is white.

Got it all sprayed today and going to let cure over night, then wet sand and probably put down another coat and then lay some stencils on and spray everything OD Green!

Stay tuned for more to come but in the mean times here is everything in white!!

I've painted several bikes and cars in my garage at home. I'll make a suggestion before you have a huge mess when you shoot your color and clear. Get that mat/rug/ whatever it is out of that booth!!!! You won't believe how contaminates will get in your clear from that thing. Before you spray the color and clear take your water hose and wet the floor/concrete and the walls to keep the dust to absolute minimum.

I shot the white with that mat in there and didn't have any issues but I'll definitely keep that in mind when I do the rest

Trust me when you shoot the clear it is a different world and every single tiny speck of dust will show up. It sucks sanding it all off and starting over, not to mention the added cost. Been there done that! For some reason clear is a magnet to anything floating around. It takes a lot longer to cure and is very very sticky until is hardens.

I go bare floor and run the hose over it before I spray. The water traps anything that is floating around.

Can't wait to see how it turns out...!
