FXDF to FXDX - Would you?
I've located an unmolested low mileage DX nearby. I think I could get it and after the sale of my bike have about 8k to drop into it.
Been day-dreaming bout a FXDX build for a while now. Love my FXDF but might be ready for a new project. Seems the aftermarket world caters to mid-glides and narrow-glides so I'm thinking that direction.
Thoughts?

My last bike was an FXDXT; spent a pile on that thing and rode it far and wide...then I tested the FXDF and it became my replacement to continue to tour on. FXDX/T handling was quicker, but FXDF feels more "planted" on the highway. I ride solo (wife has an FXDL) and we tour lots; it was time for a later model EFI upgrade for me and I'm happy with the FXDF, but those FXDX/T's are the finest handling Twin Cam bikes made and respond best to improvements out of all the Dyna's, in my opinion.
Is yours EFI or carbed? How "stock" is it? Pic's are always nice...

1) I legitimately love riding the fxdf the way it sits today
2) I wouldn't even want to count after market investments I would see $$$ roll off my driveway.
What's the conventional wisdom? strip your high value parts for resale/reuse and sell a "fatbob" with cams or sell it as a highly customized dyna?

do it. hold them both for a while before selling off the fxdf, just to be sure you like what you are drooling over. you could probably convert you f to a modern day x with minimal investment. you have most of the goods there already. main issues are your tank, fenders, wheels/tires, and gauges.

I absolutely love my FXDX, so I'm biased... One thing to keep in mind: That looks like a '99, which didn't have the adjustable cartridge fork, the mostly-adjustable rear shocks, the wider 150 rear tire (and associated narrower belt) or the larger four-piston calipers. If these were all items on the "gonna change it" list, then no big deal. But if any of them are among the reasons you want an FXDX, look for a 2000 or later.
