Default FXR frame with Twin cam motor

I couldnt find the FXR forum here so I'm hoping I can get some answers here. A buddy of mine has a FXR but wants a twin cam motor. He is looking into an S&S. He asked me if the T111 S&S would be compatible with his FXR frame. Does anyone know if it would fit or it would need some slight or major modifications?

And my next question is if he decided to buy an EFI throttle body would he still have to buy a ECU? But if he used a carburetor then he wouldnt need an ECU?

There are plates that allow a Twin Cam to mount into an EVO compatible frame.

If you run a throttle body, you need an ECU. If you run a carb, you need an ignition system.

Would he need an ignition system also if he ran a throttle body and ECU or is that only if he ran a carb?

He'll be way better off running a carb.

There's an FXR's of California Facebook group. Join it and ask. Those guys are geniuses.

No, ECM controls fuel and spark. If I were going to build one, it would run a carb and one of several excellent ignition systems.

It can be done, there are some modifications needed, the fuel tank needs to be raised, looks kinda funky.
My question though is why? It your friend is buying a new engine, why not buy a killer big inch Evo?

It's been done many times with great success. But I'm not sure if there's any advantage to the S&S Twin cam T111 vs. their Evo V111. If there is any advantage, is it worth the additional hassle, parts & expense? Guess your bud will have to make that determination.

Either way will make a great bike!

San Diego Customs sells an oil pan for a twin cam engine that makes it fit in an FXR frame, but if I remember right I think it's like $2k. If you don't go that route, you have to modify the frame. I know a shop in Queens that has done it if you're near NYC, and there are a few cali shops that I'm sure could do it if you are on the west coast.

There are performance advantages to the twin cam if you're doing an extreme build. I gave it some serious thought but decided to stick with the evo on mine for style points.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but has anyone put an XG 750 motor into an old FXR frame yet?
I was wanting a light, fuel-injected 'town bike' that was a bit different....
