Default Screamin Eagle SE 204 Cams

Just thought I'd give a plug for the SE204 cam set that I recently installed in my 2012 Super Glide Custom after a lot of research.

I bored the cylinders and installed a pair of stock 103 pistons, capped it off with thin Cometic gaskets to raise the compression ratio a little and made sure I had a free-flowing air filter (K&N) and exhaust (staggered duals). I tuned with a V&H FP3 module.

This was an economic make-over but the results are great. The increased power necessitated me installing an Alto Carbonite extra-plate clutch but I kept my stock clutch spring to retain the great light pull on the clutch lever.

The 204 cams are great. Many people overlook these items even though they've been around for quite a while. The bike pulls hard all the way up the red line at 6000+ RPM.

The low end torque is very strong. Below 4000, the engine pulls very hard. Most riding is in that RPM range. However, when I do wick it up, the power rush sustains itself all the way up and doesn't drop off at 5000 RPM.

My bike is set up to run with my European bikes, Guzzi, BMW. I have Ohlins suspension that jacks it up about 2 inches and a Sputhe Stabilizer along with low Sportster sport handlebars. I have also retained my stock 160 rear tire for better cornering.

This Super Glide will run with anything.

I don't need or want more power at this point.

I am very satisfied with the 204 cams.

edit*** May 2017** I've added a V&H Upsweep 2:1 exhaust system and it has made things even better. I'm very satisfied.

I put them in my bike with no head work and they work great. I have an 88c.i.

Same cams, same satisfaction. I just recently paired the cams with 30/70 pulleys and it hits hard now.

One other point about the 204 is that I did not need compression releases for my 103 with thin Cometic gaskets.

The cam specs are such that cranking compression is not stressed. It spins over pretty well and this is with the extra .2-.3 points of compression ratio gained with the thin gaskets.

These cams pull hard all the way to redline. Bottom end 2000-3000 is strong too. Fabulous cams, especially in a Dyna.

Well, I now have about 4000 miles on the SE 204's in my 103 upgrade. Just finished a 2600 mile trip up the Blue Ridge Pkwy and Skyline Drive.

These cams are great. Don't know why they weren't stock issue. Maybe it's the rough idle note, lol.

The 204 is not a wild and wooly cam set. They pull strong from 35 to 100 in third gear. Very tractable. Great all-around cams. Really spice up the engine.

They worked great for my trip.

I'm interested in your pulley swap. Breakouts are equipped with a 66t rear pulley. Imagine my surprise when I learned that this isn't true for the 2014 model (my ride), which in fact comes with a 64t rear pulley !!

Exercising a bit of fortuitous parsimony, I picked up a slightly used 68t rear pulley for 100 bux on e-bay a short while ago and will install it when I change rear tires next spring, (now stored for winter in Canada).

I always felt, particularly when running with other machines, that I was having to downshift early to keep revs at a reasonable 2800-3000 rpm. Since last summer, I realize why,,,, a 64t effing rear pulley !!

Being a conservative 65 yo +, newbie rider my performance requirements aren't high. That said, I do cruise at 120 kph, (75 mph), (our posted slab limits are 110), same as in my cage, and have done my ton . I'll see how the 68t rear pulley works and then decide if I need the 30t front.

Yep, been running the SE 204 for 2 seasons now and, for what my amateur opinion is worth, the 204 should have been the stock "cruiser" cam in the 103 in the first place. I did notice a modest reduction in the monstrous low end torque the OEM cam provided but honestly, unless you're running a 900 lb tourer with a combined half ton of meat on the seats, all that low end grunt is a complete waste, particularly when it results in 6th gear being nothing but an overdrive gear at cruising speeds. With my stage II mods including a pro tuner upgrade and the 204, my 103 has a nice aggressive pull from around 2800 rpm up to ??? (as high as I've rev'd). The 204 is a great "drop in" mod IMHO. I can't imagine anyone not being way happy with it over stock cams in a cruising machine.
