The tenders have a float mode to eliminate overcharging. I would just plug yours in once a month to bring it up to snuff.

Default Battery tender question

Can I use my Sears 10/2 amp Fully Automatic battery charger as a "battery tender"? Can I just leave it connected and plugged in all winter or is it better to just charge the battery up once a month or so?Thanks.

Default Tender

I have a couple tenders (Harley and Walmart) and a couple of 10/2 full size chargers. The older 10/2 does not have all the solid state as the new. (the new one will not even show voltage across the lines unless you put it to a battery. The tender is only 750 MA. I do not think I would leave the 2A on full time especially on a gel battery. If it's like my new one it probably will cut off completely at 15 volts but if it cooks the battery especially in the bike it could be bad and the battery would be the least of your worries.

Thanks,I wasnt sure if the "automatic" feature would be enough to ensure it wouldnt overcharge.

Just buy a $20 Walmart battery tender. You will be better off just having it hooked up all the time when not riding.

I use the Deltran Waterproof Battery Tender 800 for three years now and I'm verry satisfied with this model. During Winter time its hooked up to my bike all the time and it keeps my H-D gel battery in "optima forma"!

Gotta love the Deltran Jr. Model - plug and play! Nothing is more frustrating than a ruined battery and you can get the best insurance against it for $25? No-brainer

I have never used a battery charger on any vehicles while the battery was hooked up. So I am a bit concerned of hooking up a charger on my HD, but these bikes draw so much when they are cold they need topped off batteries on every ride.

Have any of you had any issues with burnt stators or other electrical components resulting from a Battery Tender Jr?
