Default New Street Bob Questions

I have been active over on Sporty section for years. Recently had an accident and the bike is not usable right now. Thinking about switching to Dyna, SB.

Couple of questions. Does 2017 model have any worthy upgrades over 2016?

Any experience on negotiating on a new bike? I know nothing about the prices on that model yet.

And, does the ABS worth it in your opinion?

Thanks,

J

Abs saved me once from a t bone situation. Activated once...that's all I can ask for. extra couple grand yes...but it saved me...I think abs is worth it for that 1 emergency stop I encountered. Its already paid for itself.

To each their own. I don't put a price tag for safety. If U got the moola just get it. What's another grand or so when your spending top dollar already on a new bike?

one thing to consider....for abs...u need someone to recalibrate your abs module or whatever u call it whenever u change fluid. It's an extra cost there for servicing or when you are doing mods. It also uses an extra brake cable so aftermarket lines are also limited in selection. It's a higher maintenance setup .

I don't know the ins and outs of ABS but I do believe that it's worth it (I don't have it).

As far as the differences in model years, I don't believe that the SB has been changed in any substantive way since 2014 when the 103 inch engine was made the standard, I may be wrong but I don't think so. As a result I think you could feel pretty comfortable negotiating for any left over products!!

The Street Bob is a fantastic canvas to play with but I'd be remiss if I didn't suggest the Low rider as well to look at. Dual discs might be nice.

Good luck, welcome to the Dyna forum and be safe!

ABS is only $700-800 and I will get it, completely agree on if used once only

I am thinking about $13,5k out the door in south Cali. Anyone thinks that's feasible?

I think you should be able to do better than that if there are any 2016/15 models out there. Do a little more research to confirm but I'm 99% positive that there are no differences from the last couple of years. Where in socal are you?

I've heard that Temecula HD has some pretty great deals going...

The biggest change which wasn't really a big change was between 2015 and 2016.

2015 the dyna 103 had 98.8 ft-lb torque at 3500 rpm

2016 high output has 102 ft-lb torque at 3000 rpm

2016 they added the so called hi output 103 engine.

for most this isn't a game changer.

get whatever bike u can get the best deal on. haggle and walk away. The bike will still be there tomorrow unless it's the last abs. Abs ones are a little tougher to find on the SB from my experience. When I bought...tons without ABS. Sales guy said because lots of peeps just buy the bare bones SB. Not sure If that was a line or not just to get me to buy one.

I had a 2007 SB and it was a great bike, but I would agree check out the Low Rider for the dual disk - it does make a big difference. Go and take a few out for a test ride. Then maybe rent one or two that you really like for a day. I know it sounds like a lot but better then buying a bike and then trading it in a year later for the one that fit you better.

My 15 Fxdb didn't have abs, and I didn't want it, but it came standard on my 17 fxdls, the first day I had it, I needed it. While it feels wired when it activates, I am now a firm believer in it, and believe it was worth every penny

I have had a few bikes. My last bike was a sporty 1200 roadster and now i have a 2016 street bob. I could have got a 2017 but i didnt see the point in spending the extra money because there basically the same bike and i got the 16 cheaper then normal because it was a left over. I will say i like his bike alot better then my sporty. Its just bigger which i wanted and it handles damn near as good as the sporty. An with the 103 its no slouch rolling down the road. I dont know whicb bike is actually faster cause i had my 1200 where it would rock and roll down the road with mods but it would be close if the 103 isnt faster. I havent opened my sb up all the way yet cause i still have less then a 1000 miles on it and currenty modding it while its vold to my liking. My advice would be go for it. Mine rides the wife better then the sporty did which is always a plus.
Cant help you on the abs. I didnt get it or the alarm system. None of my bikes ever had abs so i wasnt interested in it. Not saying its a bad thing cause its prolly worth the money. Just not for me. An i didnt get the security system because i live in the country. An its not normal for peolle to steal bikes in my area because they know they may get there face kicked in and then go to jail. Ha
